Hi, I’m Charlie the Cardinal from Trantwood Elementary School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I was named after Charlie High, a great guy, who was the Trantwood Elementary custodian for many, many years.
Here’s a picture of Charlie High. He was a very special man! Click on the audio link to listen to what Nancy Kurz, long-time staff member of Trantwood Elementary remembers about Charlie. nkurz.mp3 I’ll be updating this blog to let you know about my many adventures! Please leave comments for me!
See you later…..
Charlie

Hey,
I loved this blog. Glad to meet you Charlie. Why don’t you fly over and meet our eagles at ODC. Come over and visit me in the library. Ask for Mrs. S. or Mrs. A.

That sounds like fun! I’ll ask Dr. Slaughter if she’ll allow me to fly over to Old Donation Center! I think it’s about half way across Virginia Beach from here. If she’ll let me, I’ll look for you in the library!

I work at Trantwood and have many fond memories of Mr. High. He was a HUGE Redskins fan and he had lots of Redskins items in his office. He did talk about traveling, so when our mascot, the cardinal, needed a name, Mr. High was the first person who came to mind. Charlie has been to many exciting places over the years, and we look forward to his continued travels.

I once was a Trantwood student, but now I’m a 9th grader at Kellam High School. Two of my favorite teachers were Mrs. Dowdy and Mrs.Slough. I remember being in Mrs. Bernard’s English class and let me say I had so much fun in that class. I always keep in touch with my teachers so that they know what is on my mind after school. Trantwood Elementary School is going to be in my memories forever.

Amy – Thanks so much for sharing your memories! You were probably a student when Charlie High was a custodian at Trantwood. Trantwood is, indeed, a very special place!
