My Visit to Amsterdam

I just returned from a trip across the Atlantic Ocean to the continent of Europe.  I visited Amsterdam with one of my Trantwood Elementary friends.  While I was there, I learned that Amsterdam is the capital city of Holland, a country that many people call the Netherlands.  I had a great time seeing the sights of the city.  I’m excited to share some of what I saw with all of you!

Here’s a picture of me sitting outside the Anne Frank house.  I enjoyed sitting there by the canal – just taking in the sights.  The main mode of transportation in Amsterdam is the bicycle.  There are more bicycles in Amsterdam than cars – which makes me really happy – because the air is a lot cleaner without all the exhaust from lots and lots of cars!

In the city of Amsterdam there is a famous artist called, “The Mystery Artist.”  Very little is known about him – except that he is an Amsterdam doctor and is also an artist.  He decided many years ago (according to what I was able to learn) that he would like to help beautify the city – so now he makes pieces of art and places them randomly throughout the city.  As of today, there are 12 of his pieces of art scattered throughout the city.  While I was in Amsterdam, I found ten of the twelve!  It was kind of hard…..I had to really look.  If I had had more time, I’m sure I would have found all twelve!  No-one knows who the “Mystery Artist” is – but his work is famous throughout the city.  His art statues have even been shown on the Travel Channel!

These are two of the Mystery Artist’s statues.  I had fun hunting for them!

Here are two more pictures of me with things for which Amsterdam is famous – French Fries and wooden shoes.  People in Amsterdam  like to dip their fries into lots of different dipping sauces – even mayonnaise! UGH — I REALLY didn’t like the mayonnaise!

That sounds like a fun place to visit. I’ve been to Belgium to visit some of my mom’s friends, and that place was unbelievably awesome!
